Come join Scott Blossom and Matt Pesendian in the Santa Cruz redwood mountains for a weekend of in-depth Shadow Yoga practice.

The retreat begins on Friday, August 7th, at 4pm and ends on Sunday, August 9th, at 1pm. There will be morning and afternoon practices as well as evening gatherings.

In this retreat we will teach and practice the Shadow Yoga prelude Chaya Yoddha Sanchalanam (Churning of the Shadow Warrior) and therapeutic vinyasa for opening the hips.

SHADOW YOGA WEEKEND INTENSIVE

Shadow Yoga Warm Ups and Standing Prelude Forms are first introduced to prepare one to safely and effectively practice the more advanced limbs of Hatha Yoga.  The Shadow Yoga Full Practice Format consists of primary asana-vinyasas, kriyas, mudras, inversions, pranayama (breath control), pratyahara (withdrawal of senses) and laya (absorption).

This weekend workshop will focus on the Shadow Yoga prelude, Karttikeya Mandalam (Garland of Light). This warrior-sun prelude form consists of intricate stance, waist, spine and arm work, which is designed to increase, refine and penetrate the pranic force within.

Slow, gentle, yet energizing, these longevity Qigong forms are based on ancient Chinese yoga postures, movements, self-massage and breathing techniques.  They enhance the immune system by strengthening the bones and organs, along with promoting optimal blood flow, lymphatic circulation and oxygen intake.  Ultimately, they are designed to safely and effectively guide one’s body, mind and spirit into state of balance.

Matt developed the Medical Qigong program at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara in 2005 and in 2014 helped develop the Cancer Center’s first Acupuncture program, operating as the Chief Acupuncturist.

Nrtta Sadhana Short Form: Weeklong Intensive co-taught with Scott Blossom - San Fran

LOCATION: SAN FRANCISCO - YOGA TREE

EIGHT PALMS: Level 1 of Nrtta Sadhana: The Rhythmic Dance of Shiva and its practice.

Also known as the sacred dance of Lord Shiva, it is designed to impart gracefulness by rediscovering the rhythmic life currents hidden in the body’s folds and limbs by means of unimposed natural positioning. It consists of slight bodily movements (karanas) and large bodily shapes (angaharas).

This practice is a natural extension of Shadow Yoga and is taught to those who have thoroughly learned and practiced all 3 prelude forms.
